St. Francis was a 12th Century Italian monk who preached the values of poverty and chastity. While extremely effete, he may not have been gay. He is considered a "toss up" by the One True Church. Nevertheless, his name has been appropriated for the capital of Queerdom, San Francisco. This may have something to do with the "a sissy" part of St. Francis's enduring legacy.
- He talked to birds
- June 18, 2007 marked the 800th anniversary of his conversion to Catholicism
- Franco Zeffirelli made a fruity Italian movie about him
- St. Francis is the Patron Saint of "the environment".
- He made the first Nativity scene, complete with a real live donkey.
