First awarded in 1941, the awards recognize distinguished achievement and meritorious service by radio and television networks, stations, producing organizations, cable television organizations and individuals.
They perpetuate the memory of the tinkerer-inventor-time travelling scientist whose name they bear. The awards program is administered by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.
Winners of the Peabody AwardEdit
Bill O'Reilly once won a Peabody Award for his excellent work on the show Inside Edition, which he used to anchor before he started the O'Reilly Factor. Unfortunately, Al Franken stole into O'Reilly's house in the dead of night and flushed the award down the toilet. Franken then accused O'Reilly of lying, knowing that the proof about the original award could never be found. This is just one of the ways in which Al Franken hurts America.
Stephen Colbert, and by association America, has been awarded three Peabodys: one for his 2000 coverage of Indecision 2000 for The Daily Show, one for his 2004 coverage of Indecision 2004 for The Daily Show, and one for his Hail To The Cheese Stephen Colbert Nacho Cheese Doritos 2008 Presidential Campaign Coverage.
The Peabody selection committee has yet to explain their negligence in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
