November Sweeps (television jargon)

  1. the week in November when networks play shows that they believe will get high ratings in the hopes of showing good numbers to the advertisers.
Example: when Laura Bush spent time with families in the Mississippi gulf coast a few days after Hurricane Katrina struck, she did so followed by a television camera crew from the program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". However, instead of airing it live or interrupting the regularly scheduled programs, the ABC network delayed airing it until "November Sweeps".
