Yves 'Fusion Man' Rossy flies his jet-powered single wing over the Alps, Bex, Switzerland, 14 May, 2008.
Rossy became airborne after jumping from an airplane. The wings can be jettisoned and a parachute can be deployed with the flick of one lever.
Swiss watch company Hublot, helped pay for the $285,000 development of the 8-foot wings, which include 4 German-built model aircraft engines.
To beat the heat of the egines, Rossy wears a heat-resistant suit and relies on wind and altitude, which also helps in emergencies.
