Honorary Colonel-in-Chief Nils Olav reviews members of the Norwegian King's Guard regiment before being knighted by British Maj. Gen. Euan Loudon on behalf of Norway's King Harald V. Loudon at the Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh, Scotland, 15 August, 2008.

This king penguin is the third "Nils Olav" and is an honorary member of and mascot for the Guard. The original Nils Olav was adopted by a Lieutenant Nils Egelien.

The current Nils Olav was promoted from honorable regimental sergeant major to honorary colonel-in-chief in 2005.
