Once thought to be part of North Dakota, Fargo is located in Minnesota.

One morning in the spring of 1847 five Chiefs of the Wahpetowan Band of Dakota Indians discovered Yogi Yorgesson camped on the Left Bank of the Red River. Seeing a potential opportunity, they paid Yorgesson $24 dollars worth of beads and other trinkets to take the God forsaken place off their hands. Yorgesson opened a trading post however the business soon failed when he could find no customers for his beads and trinkets. Facing starvation, Yorgesson planted a garden and soon discovered that the land was quite suitable for potatoe cultivation. He then established a potatoe plantation and began to import cheep Scandinavian labor to work his fields. The population quickly grew as more Scandinavians flooded into the area in search of opportunity. However rather than opportunity, they found snow, despair, and a few beads and trinkets scattered across the icy prairie.
According to the United States Census Bureau the city had a population of 2,377 people in 2000. In 2008, its population was estimated at 1,497. The racial makeup of the city is 98.2% White, 1.5% Irish, and .3% undetermined. The median income for a household in the city was $3,422, making it the wealthiest city in Minnesota. The Fargo Public School serves grades K-8, and Fargo now boasts an adult literacy rate of 55%. In 2009 the city began a massive public works program funded by the Stimulus plan of Barack Hussein Obama and hopes to have municipal water and sewage systems serving the city by
