Happy Excuse To Eat Candy Day!
During the spring of 2006, Stephen Colbert noticed that Easter was under attack by none other than the secular left. The event that sparked the series took place in St. Paul, Minnesota, in which a secretary was told to remove her Easter decorations from her desk.
Later in the year, the Antony Thomas Candy Company recalled candy Easter eggs because they possibly contained egg whites. To this Stephen responded, "What's next Antony Thomas Candy Company, recalling communion wafers because they may contain Jesus?"
In this same episode Colbert addressed the issue of Walgreens' (the drug lords) new Easter-themed item entitled "Prayer Bears." In no way should Easter ever be involved with those godless killing machines.
In March of 2007, Stephen noted that the town of Walnut Creek, California wants to rename the Easter Bunny to the Spring Bunny, completely ignoring the rabbit's role in the Resurrection, when Jesus emerged from the tomb after three days, riding the Easter Bunny and distributing candies and colored eggs.
