Chief Big Bear was chief of the Northern Plains Bush Cree in the 1800s. He was the last chief to sign treaty 6 and never choose a reserve site. He refused to convert to Christianity and strived to maintain the Native way of life up until his imprisonment and eventual death. He was a man of peace and character.
The Bear Spirit Edit
Through Indian "Vision Ceremony", Big Bear was able to summon the Spirit of the Father Bear. The Bear Spirit grant Big Bear the power of the bear. With the instruction of the Spirit Bear, he made his personal item of power. Chief's Sons Hand was what he called it and it represented his connection with the Bear.
Becoming Chief Edit
Big Bear became chief at the age of 40 when his father Blackpowder passed away. Big Bear was a man of peace and at one point led up to 2000 people.
