Adele is a British singer and songwriter who won two Grammy Awards in 2009 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She rose to fame when she appeared on Saturday Night Live in October of 2008 when the former governess and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was on the show. The Governess' appearance got many people to watch the show that night and at the time Adele was not known to America. This appearance made her known and helped lead her to Grammy victory several months later. This was one of several things that happened in a series of events; John McCain picks Sarah Palin as his running mate, Tina Fey makes fun of her on SNL, Sarah Palin appears on the same day as Adele performs, Adele wins two Grammys.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown sent a letter to Adele thanking her for keeping people's hopes up in Britain during the economic crisis, however this did not help Browns numbers in the polls and it is still expected that he and the Labour Party will lose to David Cameron and the Conservative Party in the next UK election.
