On the cover of its March 13, 2006 'Books Gone Wild' issue, U.S. News & World Report cited "Hoaxes, lies and truthiness," but in no part of the issue gave credit to Stephen Colbert for coining the phrase.

Publisher Mort Zuckerman refused to apologize during his July 12, 2006 appearance on The Report, claiming that once a word has become part of the vernacular it is automatically associated with its author.
