Newfoundland and Labrador History
Edit
Newfoundland was founded in the early 1960’s by drunken Scots who were disappointed by the ever increasing standards of living in their homeland, as this interfered with their tradition of complaining. They began looking for a place where they would never be burdened by modern culture or civilization again, their first choice was Detroit, but as it was already inhabited they chose a small piece of land that had been newly found. The original chosen name was Somalia 2, but Somalia objected, so they went with Newfoundland. In 1972 all 23 residents voted unanimously to elect Danny Williams as emperor. Newfoundland then gained it’s independence from Canada in the 8 minute war, which involved the removal of the Canadian flag by newfie and known communist Rick Mercer. The Canadian response was first to find Newfoundland on a map, then to send them a strongly worded letter, after a series of talks known collectively as the Happy Valley Goose bay Accords, Newfoundland agreed to rejoin the country if a hose was installed that pumped money directly from Ottawa to St. Johns

Newfoundland & Labrador Trivia
Edit
- People in Newfoundland have a distinct language of their own... a mixture of Old English, jibberish and drunken sluring..perhaps long forgotten...Scottish dialects in some areas to the south not much... Irish lilt and speech patterns as well as French blendings to form what we call now The Rocks unique speech... branded the name Newfoundlander.
- Newfoundlanders are some of if not the most friendliest people that I know and generally we were always taught to respect our elders and show kindness to our neighbors and strangers alike.... always a cup o'tea and a biccy waiting for you from what I could gather. The official bird of Newfoundland is the Puffin... flower is the Pitcher Plant... We joined Canada in 1949. We are a fiercly proud people... through all the generations that I know of... we have some of the highest levels of smart people as heads of jobs and sites all over the world.... Memorial University is awesome and top of the line from my perspective. We are sea folk and Island people... go anywhere in the world... Newfoundlanders always know Newfoundlanders and we generally stick together because outside of our own homes and families... another family awaits and I think we stick together because we are like family... common ground to stand upon... and over all the years of upset and tribulations on our Island we still smile and personally I think we still have our problems but we get through them together.... We as Newfoundlanders still have the time of day to say hello to someone.. give them a hand and you know what maybe if this world would try a little more kindest and have the general attitude of a Newfoundlander... it maybe just maybe start a trend beyond our little box like minds can think. Oldest settlements in North America.... Flag (new one) adapted from the British Union Jack...
