Representative Jerry Costello has represented Illinois' twelth district since 1988 and is a ranking Democrat on the House Aviation Subcommittee. He is most well known for his bipartisan positions on issues and being one of the few to vote against the war in Iraq.

On October 4, 2011 he announced he would not be seeking reelection in 2012.
