Ching Chong Ding Dong
this wiki
Harmless fun.
Ching Chong Ding Dong is a character that Stephen sometimes plays while sipping tea prior to live satellite interviews.
On November 3rd, 2005, the blogostapo intercepted the candid off-air live feed prior to Stephen's interview of Bradley Whitford and uploaded video of Stephen's playful Ching Chong Ding Dong rapport with his intern Laurie.
In a post on their page at asianmediawatch.net, the Changstapo called out Stephen's Ching Chong Ding Dong character for his
"...over-exaggerated accent, facial expressions, and intentionally broken English."
On the November 10, 2005 segment of The Inbox, Stephen read an email from a Lee X. of San Francisco, California:
King Ching Chong Ding Dong is not amused: "Steven Corbelt is ignolant man. Me hate him rong time!"
"Dear Stephen,
The Asian "character" you
portrayed on Tuesday's show
was insulting to me and all
Asian Americans. You owe
your viewers an apology."
Stephen apologized for his insensitivity and turned over a few moments of that evening's Report to a live feed from a sister station in Osaka, Japan.
