In the midst of The Greatest Depression Ever! America turned back an army of communists who had dared to camp out on the White House lawn. They called themselves the Bonus Army.

In 2009, at the beginning of the Obama Recession, another Bonus Army appeared. Executives from the insurance giant AIG also headed to our nation's capitol after their bonuses were taken away.

From their limousines this Bonus Army consulted with their lobbyists, who then phoned their pet congressmen in the hopes of having their bonuses returned.

After a few frantic hours on the phone, it was decided that the princely sums that these corporate titans had earned would be disguised as "retention awards" so as not to rouse the rabble.
