Chapter One: Stephen Colbert
Page One: 'We're #1' - so what's the rest of the book?
America was founded on a set of values, rather than a common territory or populace
Values: Liberty, Democracy, Justice, Equality, Tolerance, Liberty, Humility and Faith - especially humility
What is being sold as our values? example: Justice = Gitmo, Abu Ghraib
Instead of Gitmo, we should freeze detainees in carbonite like Han Solo
Ms. Slaughter claims we should 'work with other nations'
"you're either with us, or you're agin' us" - Now that the world is agin' us, doesn't that prove that Bush was prophetic
Ms. Slaughter believes the US should admit our mistakes. We will, just as soon as we make one.
What country do we reach out to first? England? Australia?
As a global superpower, we don't apologize or show weakness. We're the Daddy of America's Planet
"You can't believe in progress if you think you're already perfect"
Why actually live up to our ideals if we can just say we're living up to them?

a country founded on a set of values, not laws
no one is humbler than Americans
we need to get back to the values, not the laws
real values, not the ones we have been sold
she wants to get rid of Gitmo
democratize
she is saying America is chunky
thinks she speaks for the Founding Fathers
doesnt think America can do what it wants alone

wants America to "amit" making mistakes
believs admitting mistakes has something to do with acceptin responsibility
